UPrograms (UM Study Abroad Programs)

Students participating in UPrograms do NOT need to submit coursework through MATES. Instead, they should:

  • Review the UM Study Abroad database to identify proposed courses and corresponding UM course equivalencies.

  • Share the listed equivalencies with their Cane Navigator to confirm how courses will apply to their degree plan prior to going abroad.

  • Contact their Study Abroad advisor if courses are not listed in the database.

UM Partner Exchange Programs

Students participating in partner exchange programs should:

  • Review the UM Study Abroad database to identify proposed courses and any listed UM course equivalencies.

  • Share this information with their Cane Navigator to verify how courses will apply to their degree plan.

  • If proposed courses are not listed in the database, students will need to complete the MATES process to obtain UM course equivalencies (instructions available through Study Abroad).

Summer 2026

Biomedical Engineering

Program Dates:

The University of Miami College of Engineering’s Department of Biomedical Engineering is offering summer 2025 courses abroad in Florence, Italy. Students can take BME 335 or BME 495 while exploring Italian culture and visiting cities across the region. Planned excursions include the Piaggio, Lamborghini, Ducati, and Pagani factories and museums.

 

Students will study the properties and applications of biomaterials or work on independent projects while living in Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance. The program will also include visits to the College of Engineering at the University of Florence and the University of Bologna, the oldest university in the Western world
