Nursing CREF

Research Collaborations Between Nursing and Engineering

This CREF between Nursing and Engineering was conducted in two parts, one helt January 27, 2016 and another held March 16, 2015. Click here for Request for Proposals. Proposals are due May 16, 2016.

January 27, 2016, 1:00 – 2:30 pm
School of Nursing Main Conference Room, First Floor

In an effort to enhance collaborative research between the Nursing and Engineering faculty, the Deans of the School of Nursing & Health Studies and the College of Engineering, have launched a Collaborative Research Exchange Forum (CREF). CREFs focus on specific research areas at the interface of two disciplines, in this case nursing and engineering. Potential areas of collaboration are listed below. The ultimate goal is to encourage funded collaborative research between faculty from the respective schools. This CREF is intended to help in addressing this goal by starting conversations focused on complementary research expertise among the two schools. The goal at the conclusion of this meeting is to start the process of identifying Request for Proposals (RFPs) for interdisciplinary research that can be submitted by faculty from both nursing and engineering.

Location: University of Miami, School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Gables Campus

The purpose of this Collaborative Research Exchange Forum (CREF) is to encourage funded collaborative research between faculty from the University of Miami (UM) School of Nursing and Health Sciences and the College of Engineering. To facilitate the process the Deans from the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (Dr. Nilda Peragallo) and College of Engineering (Dr. Jean-Pierre Bardet) have launched a two-hour meeting which is designed for faculty from both schools to meet, learn about each other’s research interests, and to discuss potential collaborative projects. This CREF, will be held on March 16, 2016 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Executive Conference Room in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (first floor).

To further facilitate the development of research proposals a Request for Proposals was issued and discussed during the meeting for the purpose of encouraging collaboration between at least one faculty from nursing and another from engineering within a topic that cuts across both disciplines. The primary expected outputs from the RFP to be announced during the CREF are funded research proposals.

To help in the match-making process we requested that all faculty interested in this opportunity provide: a one-page profile. In addition, profiles for Nursing School faculty were distributed during the meeting. Match making was facilitated through a "speed-dating" process where attendees at the meeting were each given a few minutes to introduce their research interests.
