Innovative Solutions to Real-World Problems

The Capstone Program at the University of Miami College of Engineering (CoE) brings students and companies together to tackle real-world, multidisciplinary engineering issues. Sponsors challenge students with projects from their companies and provide support to teams of talented engineering seniors to design and create solutions. Companies propose a project for academic review by the CoE faculty and commit to a charitable gift for a semester-long project. Student teams are matched to a project along with a faculty mentor and industry sponsors provide a technical mentor to meet with the team for the duration of the project. With the help of their technical and faculty mentors, students embark on a full-cycle design process, including:

  • Problem definition
  • Benchmark studies
  • Concept generation and feasibility studies
  • Engineering design analysis
  • Rapid-prototyping fabrication and testing, when applicable

As a Corporate Capstone Associate, your $50,000 charitable donation includes:

  • Sponsoring a semester-long capstone project with two senior design teams (2-3 students/team)
  • Meeting with the Dean and two faculty members in the industry of your choice
  • Hosting students for mock interviews and participating in mentoring program
  • Judging projects at the annual Senior Design Expo where capstone projects are presented
  • Invitations to faculty research briefings
  • Company-branded semiannual presentations to students and faculty
  • Featured corporate profile in eCane newsletter and on the College of Engineering website
