The CoE Industrial Assessment Center

Dr. Shihab Asfour, Professor and Chair of Industrial Engineering and Associate Dean for Academics, recently was notified that the University of Miami Industrial Assessment Center (MIIAC) has received incremental funding from the Department of Energy for Fiscal Year 2016, bringing the total funding level to approximately $3 Million for this Center since its inception in 2000.  According to Dr. Asfour the Center has been repeatedly recognized for its efforts in the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy area and awarded the DOE Center of Excellence Award in 2013. Likewise, the MIIAC was honored with a visit by President Obama, during his trip to UM for a major energy speech in 2012, who emphasized the crucial efforts of the Center towards making the US energy efficient.  The Center has provided critical energy analysis to over 500 mid-level and small companies within the Southeast region of the US and presently includes 5 graduate students as well as 10 undergraduate students involved providing companies with viable processes to significantly reduce their energy consumption expenses.
