Troy Thompson has served as director of the Office of Facilities and Equipment at the College of Engineering since September 2014. He is responsible for management of the College’s facilities and equipment and for supervision of the student machine shop. He is also an essential liaison between the College and University divisions such as the Office of Facilities, Design and Construction, the Physical Plant Services Department, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety and the Office of Emergency Management. In addition, he works closely with student organizations and is currently the advisor for the Student Sports Car Club.

Thompson has an extensive background in research and development, prototyping and fabrication, progressive tool and die manufacturing, mold making-manufacturing, manufacturing management, project management, and aviation-aerospace management maintenance. His leadership and innovation provided key contributions to past employers such as the Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Aerospace Engineering, Small Parts Inc., Wilson Sporting Goods, Hye Precision Products and Thompson Enterprises.

Thompson is a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. His military career spans tours supporting the mission of the Air Force Reserve’s 134th Air Refueling Wing, Air National Guard’s 116th Bomb Wing, and Air Force Air National Guard’s 116th Air Control Wing.

Thompson enjoys spending time with his wife of 22 years and sons ages 9 and 14. He works as a volunteer coach to support his sons’ youth sporting programs and is a personal trainer, helping others achieve their fitness goals.
