Odalis Ruiz is executive assistant to the dean and serves as coordinator for all administrative aspects of the dean’s duties and functions. She has worked at the College of Engineering since 2007, first in the area of research, and since October 2007, as the dean’s assistant. Her role includes involvement in daily and strategic operations for the dean and the College administration, faculty affairs, student services, and special programs and activities.

In 2010 Ruiz was team leader for the first-ever joint meeting of the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine, organizing a panel discussion with presenters that included then-University President Donna E. Shalala; Dean of the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine Pascal Goldschmidt, College of Engineering Dean James M. Tien and other national leaders in healthcare and engineering. On February 23, 2012, Ruiz was the liaison between the White House and the College for President Barack Obama’s visit to the College.

Prior to her arrival at the College, Ruiz had extensive University experience in the Office of the Provost at the Coral Gables campus, and the Office of Medical Grants and Research Contracts at the Miller School of Medicine. Ruiz has worked in the private sector as a paralegal, with a concentration in real estate and corporate law.

She resides in Coral Gables with her family. Her son is pursuing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biomedical engineering at the College.
