Protecting Our Waters

At the most recent University of Miami’s Women’s Guild (UMWG) luncheon, Dr. Helena Solo-Gabriele, associate dean for research and professor with the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Department, gave an educational presentation detailing her ongoing studies on the sources of harmful microbes in coastal environments. She described the relationships between beach characteristics and human health indicators.

The UMWG is a membership organization whose purpose is to promote good relations between the University and the local community. Luncheons are held to inform members about the University of Miami and the variety of its educational offerings, its research and its contributions to the community. Presentations at these luncheons highlight the different areas of educational interests at the University.
