PhD Candidates Accepted into Prestigious Medical Physics Residency Programs

Congratulations to University of Miami College of Engineering (UMCoE) PhD candidates Karen (Keying) Xu and Maria De Ornelas who have both been matched to medical physics residency programs — keeping UMCoE Medical Physics Graduate Program’s match rate at 100%!

Xu (BSBE ’09, MSBE ’13, PhD Biomedical Engineering ’18) has been matched to Case Western Reserve University medical physics residency program and De Ornelas (BSBE ’08, MSBE ’11, PhD Biomedical Engineering/Medical Physics ’18) has been matched to University of Miami Medical Physics Residency Program! Both students will begin their respective programs in July 2018.

“It is an honor and privilege to be matched with the University of Miami’s Medical Physics Residency Program,” said De Ornelas. “This joint program with the College of Engineering and Miller School of Medicine offers an unmatched array of physics faculty and state-of-the-art technology.”

The overall goal of UM’s Medical Physics Graduate Program is to provide students with knowledge, hands-on clinical training, and experiences in all aspects of patient care and prepare students for board certification. The program was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) in 2012, and is currently one of 38 accredited programs in the nation.
