Internship Profile: Yuqi You, Mechanical Engineering ’21 (Faurecia)

Name: Yuqi You
Class: 2021
Hometown: Chengdu, Sichuan, China
Degree: Mechanical Engineering
Internship (Company Name and Location): Faurecia; Chengdu, Sichuan, China

How did you find this internship?
I found this internship through a person’s introduction.

Describe your internship.
I completed an internship in the automotive industry, which matches 99% with my major. The experience was amazing, and, as a college student, I had never felt the labor of work and making money. The major tasks I completed were: making three-dimensional drawings, assisting in finding and solving problems for all the welding machines, checking the finished product with gauges, and recording all the alignment pins on each jig.

What did you learn at CoE that has helped you at your summer internship?
Although the software the company uses for three-dimensional graphing is Catia (different from the one we learned at the College of Engineering), the study of Creo absolutely helped. All the videos Dr. Ram showed us in the lecture about welding and riveting, as well as the warnings of how safety is the most important precondition under any circumstance, helped me in the internship. Also, the time I spent in the CoE workshop really helped.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned at this program?
This experience has shown me what “work” looks like and confirmed my choice of major.

Why has this been a good experience for you?
I have a better understanding of working and the importance of cooperation.
