How did you find this internship?
I met with representatives from Caterpillar at the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) National Conference in Philadelphia in October.
Describe your internship.
I am a design engineer intern with an electric drive train team. In addition to working 40-hour weeks with the team, the program incorporates after-hours social activities and different facility tours during the day to expose us to everything that CAT does.
What did you learn at CoE that has helped you at your summer internship?
I have been using skills and theory that I have learned, or been exposed to, through my classes and research at the CoE. The knowledge I have that is not directly related allows me to understand more advanced topics. I also use the skills that I learned as an org leader to communicate effectively.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned at this program?
I learn a lot of technical skills and practice them every day! I also am learning about what it is like to work as an engineer in a large industry and all of the internal and external factors related to that.
Why has this been a good experience for you?
This experience is helping me grow as both an engineer and a working member of industry. I have been exposed to so many things and gained so much experience that I now better understand the value of my education and how exciting my future is!
