Summer Research Studio on Active Tensegrity Space Structures Application Deadline

The Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering (CAE) and the School of Architecture (SoA) at the University of Miami (UM) are organizing an undergraduate summer research studio for engineering and architecture students focusing on active tensegrity structures for space applications.

Tensegrity is a materially and mechanically efficient system that can combine actuators with structural elements. In the studio, tensegrity systems for shape-changing and locomotion applications will be investigated using numerical simulation and physical rapid prototyping.

The studio is sponsored by the NASA Florida Space Grant Consortium (FSGC) and will provide a $2,000 scholarship to six selected students*. Studio work will  be presented at the 2018 ASCE  Earth and Space Conference.

Application Deadline: March 15, 2017

For more information, contact Dr. Landolf Rhode-Barbarigos or Dr. Juhong Park. To  apply for the studio please send your CV and a one-page essay on your research interests.

*Students must be US citizens from FSGC affiliated universities and colleges.
