Engineering Student Organizations Honored by the Engineering Advisory Board

On Tuesday, April 25, College of Engineering (CoE) Dean Jean-Pierre Bardet joined student leaders at the Shalala Student Center for the Engineering Advisory Board (EAB) honors ceremony. This annual event recognizes outstanding achievements by student organizations and individual leaders who belong to one or more of the more than 20 student clubs active at the College. From affinity groups to professional organizations to honor societies, these clubs perform outreach on a local, national and international level as well as provide valuable experience in leadership, organization and planning for future engineers.

The awards presented at the ceremony included:

Outstanding Student Organization Award: This organization has positively impacted students’ lives, made meaningful contributions to the College of Engineering and/or the University, and hosted events that set it apart from others. Winner: Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)

Most Improved Student Organization Award: This organization has greatly improved in the past academic year and hosted an event in the past academic year that set it apart from other organizations. Winner: Data Analytics Student Association (DASA)

Ann Helmers Organization Outreach Program Award: This organization has made meaningful contributions to the surrounding community or other communities and hosted an event that best achieved outreach among all organizations. Winner: Engineers Without Borders (EWB)

Unsung Hero Award: A student in one of the College’s organizations who has made a substantive yet unrecognized contribution to the College of Engineering throughout their time at the University of Miami and who has demonstrated:

  • Humility, kindness and compassion
  • Dedication to their peers and community
  • Willingness to go above and beyond the requirements of their role

Winner: Mark Ciappesoni, BSEE ’17

Student Leadership Award: A College of Engineering student organization leader who has effectively led their organization and who has demonstrated:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Unrelenting dedication to their organization
  • Respect and kindness toward their peers

Winner: Eric Milton, BSECE ’17
