BS in Computer Engineering – Pre-Medical Concentration

Objective

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers accredited programs leading to BS degrees in Computer Engineering – Premedical Concentration (BSCpE – Premed Concentration). The program provides students with the opportunity to gain the benefits of a rigorous education inherent in with a BSCpE while simultaneously completing the basic science requirements necessary for applying to medical or dental school. The program has a strong background in the fundamentals in the physical sciences, mathematics, computer science and involves applications of electrical and computer engineering to solve problems in health, such as the development of nano-scale biosensors or the signal processing analysis of DNA sequences or the development and/or use of new hardware and software tools to better server both medical professionals and patients. The BSCpE – Premed Concentration program is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The objectives of the BSCpE – Premed Concentration program is to prepare graduates who, within the first four to six years after graduation are, either:

  • Working as a professional or as an entrepreneur in an area closely related to computer engineering, medical or dental fields, or
  • Exhibit lifelong learning by pursuing or having completed a graduate or professional degree and/or demonstrated professional development

4Students in the Premed Concentration are highly encouraged to choose cognates that include PSY 110 and SOC 101. To be selected from lists of approved People and Society (PS)/Humanities and Arts (HA) cognates, to be selected from the list of available cognates.
