Coral Gables Community Foundation Honors CoE Alumna and Philanthropist Ana VeigaMilton

University of Miami College of Engineering (CoE) alumna Ana VeigaMilton, BSEE ’87 JD ’93, and the Milton Family were honored by the Coral Gables Community Foundation (CGCF) at the 2018 Gala as Education Champions for their hard work and commitment to improving the quality of education in South Florida through The José Milton Foundation.

VeigaMilton presides over The José Milton Foundation and guides philanthropy for the family business, United Property Management in Coral Gables, one of the largest property owners and managers in South Florida with almost 8,000 residential units and commercial real estate. The José Milton Foundation strives to continue the legacy of founder and family patriarch, architect José Milton, reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit, generosity, determination, fiscal responsibility and love for South Florida with its rich cultural diversity, boundless potential and ever evolving skyline. The foundation supports programs and organizations in South Florida that improve the quality of living, with a special focus on education, research and healthcare.

Most recently, the foundation named a room at the CoE, The José Milton Leadership Hall, and donated to build the Animal Fun Factory at Zoo Miami, the first guest-interactive enrichment center in an accredited zoo. The foundation also awards the Advancing Minorities in STEM Scholarship for a graduate of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Program, and commits millions toward the building of the José Milton Memorial Hospital – an expansion of Jackson Health System providing academic medicine through expert UM doctors.

The CGCF, a nonprofit organization devoted to bringing together beneficiaries and benefactors to fund programs with the greatest impact and benefit for the city of Coral Gables, holds an annual gala to celebrate the evening’s distinguished honorees and the foundation’s accomplishments. This year, the gala was held on October 5 for a black tie and masquerade benefit at the iconic Biltmore Hotel Miami Coral Gables.
