David T. Poole has served as director of admission for the College of Engineering since March 2001. A graduate of St. John’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Poole began his professional career in media marketing and research in 1982. In 1987 he transitioned to enrollment management when he accepted a position at the University of Miami in the Undergraduate Admission Office. He has also held enrollment management positions at Barry University and Florida International University, returning to UM in 2001.

Poole has more than 30 years of experience working with diverse populations of prospective undergraduate and graduate students from across the globe. He has sought to increase participation of under-represented minority groups in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields as a career choice, and is deeply committed to the College’s focus on “Transforming Lives Through Teaching, Research, Innovation and Service.” He has organized numerous activities and curricula, including precollege summer camps and hands-on field activities in science and in engineering, both in the United States and abroad.

Poole is the advisor for the Engineering Student Ambassadors, a group of outstanding engineering students who serve as College representatives to prospective students, visitors, alumni and guests at special programs and activities. He is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and has frequently presented for that organization on recruitment and admissions topics. He is also actively involved with the Southeast Consortium for Minorities in Engineering, and has organized numerous K-12 outreach programs. Additionally, he is involved with NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and with the Institute of International Education, which collaboratively work to encourage more engineering students to participate in study-abroad opportunities.

He is a member of Iron Arrow, the highest honor that can be bestowed at the University of Miami.
