Michael Xie is the co-founder, president and CTO of Fortinet, Inc. (NASDAQ: FTNT), where he leads the engineering team that designed and implemented the flagship multifunction security gateway products. Both the Fortinet company and these products have won numerous awards and accolades from the cybersecurity industry, most recently including the Product of the Year 2014 award from Networld Magazine, Best MSP Solutions 2013 at the MSP World Conference, and the Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Share Leadership 2013 for Unified Threat Management (UTM). Fortinet Inc. has become one of the largest cybersecurity companies in the world, with more than 218,000 customers, and it has shipped more than 1.8 million units since company inception.

Xie holds more than 40 U.S. patents, mostly in high-performance cybersecurity solution areas. He was honored with the 2009 Tech Innovator Award by Everything Channel’s CRN. He was also named a 2006 Northern California Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young and a top technology innovator by VARBusiness magazine in 2004.

Before founding Fortinet, Xie worked in various senior engineering design and management roles at cybersecurity firms, including Netscreen Technologies and Milkyway Networks. He earned an MS degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Manitoba, as well as an MS in automobile engineering from Tsinghua University.

The Ken and Michael Xie Foundation is a member of the George E. Merrick Society, which honors those whose commitments to the University have reached $1 million and above.
