Laura Coulter-Jones

UM Board of Trustee Emeriti

Laura Coulter-Jones was the former president of and, for more than 25 years, an employee of the Coulter Corporation (now Danaher, Inc.), a medical device and diagnostics company founded by her late father, Joseph Coulter, and her uncle, Wallace Coulter; she has focused in the areas of finance, research and development, and regulatory compliance. She has also managed personal real estate and financial investments, and has consulted for various startup companies.

Coulter-Jones hails from a family that has a long-standing relationship with the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital. Generous gifts from the Coulter family have enabled UM physicians and researchers to understand more about how to prevent and treat disease. Through the L. Coulter Foundation, her private family foundation, Coulter-Jones has focused on charitable giving to healthcare-related and educational causes. The UM Miller School of Medicine, the UM College of Engineering, as well as Jackson Memorial Hospital have long benefitted from support by the L. Coulter Foundation. On a personal level, Coulter-Jones has provided funding for high-tech interactive educational equipment at her daughter’s high school to enhance the educational experience between students and teachers. In addition, she supports The Center for Excellence in Early Education, a United Way literacy program for preschool children, as well as many other worthy causes.

Now primarily dedicated to philanthropic causes and to her family, Coulter-Jones and her husband, Michael, an antique car collector, have a daughter who is attending UM. Coulter-Jones is an avid gardener who enjoys the variety of flowers and vegetables that grow at the family’s North Carolina ranch, where they spend summers and some holidays.

In 1925 two significant milestones – the granting of charters to the nascent University of Miami and the new City of Coral Gables – led to the launch of “The University of Miami: The Great Outdoor University at Coral Gables.” Their destinies forever entwined, Coral Gables and the University of Miami benefitted from the time, talent and resources of men and women of great vision and determination. The Gables Society honors this shared past and celebrates a promising future by recognizing those who have generously contributed $5 million and above to the University of Miami. Coulter-Jones is a member of the Gables Society. The College of Engineering gratefully acknowledges Coulter-Jones’ support of CoE and has recognized her gift on the M2 Roger L. Koch Leadership Wall.
