Ivan M. Botelho is a Brazilian citizen and has been the chairman of the board of the Brazilian electric utility holding company Energisa S.A. since 1990. He started working at Energisa S.A.in 1957 after graduating from the University of Miami College of Engineering with a BSEE. He is the third generation of the controlling family at Energisa.

Botelho is a founder of the Brazilian Academy of Engineers and graduated from the Brazilian FGV/RPI graduate school of business administration for utility companies. He is also a former member of the Rotary Club, G-50 (Carnegie Endowment) and a member of CEAL (Consejo Empresarios America Latina) and YPO/WPO (Young Presidents’ Organization/World Presidents’ Organization).

Energisa was founded in 1905 and is one of the oldest electric utilities in Brazil. With its existing customer base of 6.5 million clients in nine states of Brazil with a population of approximately 19 million inhabitants, it ranks as the sixth-largest utility in Brazil. Since 1957, when Botelho joined the company, the customer base has grown 200 percent; Energisa also has a total workforce of approximately 12,000 employees.
