Ana VeigaMilton is proud to call Miami home. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, VeigaMilton gratefully accepted an Isaac Bashevis Singer Scholarship to attend UM. While at the CoE, she served on various student organizations and graduated summa cum laude with a BS in electrical engineering, computer option, general honors. She accepted a position at Bellsouth as a communications engineer and helped implement the first public VoiceMail system in Florida. She enjoyed her work but wished to delve further into electrical engineering by pursuing a master’s degree at FIU, falling a few credits shy. Wishing to return to her alma mater after marrying Cecil, a fellow ’Cane, VeigaMilton received a full scholarship to law school, thanks to her engineering background. With her family’s support, she graduated summa cum laude with a JD degree and became a member of the Florida Bar. The ’Cane family tradition continues with the couple’s older son, Alec, graduating from UM Business School and pursuing a master’s in architecture. Their son Eric graduates from UM CoE as a Foote Fellow and Isaac Bashevis Singer Scholar, and daughter Diana studies computer science at Georgia Tech.

VeigaMilton is active in the community, serving as an officer of the UM Citizens Board, immediate past chair of the Zoo Miami Foundation board, board member of the United Way and the Jackson Health Foundation, and member of the Women’s Committee and Miracle Society of Big Brothers Big Sisters. She also served as co-chair of the College of Engineering’s Momentum 2 Campaign. She was honored as a Miracle Maker in 2011, by the Chapman Partnership in 2012, by the American Cancer Society’s Inner Circle of Twelve in 2013 for her service to the community, and at Fairchild’s Splendor in the Garden in 2017.

VeigaMilton presides over the José Milton Foundation and guides philanthropy for the family business, United Property Management in Coral Gables, one of the largest property owners and managers in South Florida with almost 8,000 residential units and commercial real estate. The José Milton Foundation was established by her father-in-law to support programs and organizations in South Florida that improve quality of living, with a special focus on education, research and healthcare. Most recently, the foundation named a room at the CoE, the Leadership Hall, donated to build the Animal Fun Factory at Zoo Miami, the first guest-interactive enrichment center in an accredited zoo, awards the Advancing Minorities in STEM Scholarship for a graduate of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Program, and commits $10 million toward the building of the José Milton Memorial Hospital, an expansion of Jackson Health System providing academic medicine through expert UM doctors.
